Scratch Removal:

A deep scratch

Firstly you must understand that not all scratches will polish out, so the best way to test whether your scratch will is to run your index finger vertically down the panel or across the scratch. If your nail falls into the scratch then unfortunately this is to deep to polish out and will need paint refinishing.

Very fine scratches can be removed by using a strong polish and rubbing the area with a slightly damp cloth. We suggest rubbing the area horizontally because when you polish paint work you can leave very light scratches. These scratches may not be visible at first but in direct sun light they stand out. By polishing horizontally, any scratches you may put in the panel will all face the same way and will not visible.

Deeper scratches will need to be carefully wet flatted (again horizontally) with ultra fine sand paper and soapy water. Once the scratch has been removed, the panel will need to be machine polished to bring back a deep shine.

Scratch Improvement:

If you cannot remove a scratch using one of the techniques above then here's a way of improving it using masking tape:

  1. Place a piece of masking tape either side of the scratch.
  2. Using a very thin touch up brush touch up the scratch one coat at a time, leaving at least ten minutes between coats to allow for the paint to dry properly. By doing this you will be filling the scratch with colour.
  3. Once you've filled the scratch, remove the tape and carefully polish the area.

Flaking paint around a scratch

We cannot recommend this procedure enough. Although it won't remove the scratch, it will stop the damage getting worse until you're ready to have it removed completely. Not carrying out this proceedure can result in the paint lifting and flaking away, making the damage look ten times worse, or even dampness getting under your paint causing rust.

Every vehicle suffers from light scratches, key damage, swirl marks on the paint and oxidization. Clean Image in Chelmsford offer a service which they call Paint Correction. We thoroughly recommend this service. Although not all scratches can be removed, for a quarter of the cost of a full respray your vehicle could be transformed back to new.

During the Paint Correction process, each panel is carefully wet flatted to remove any light scratch damage or oxidization, then machine and hand polished using a number of different products and techniques.

Vehicles having a full paint correction service may also require a valet.

Bird Dropping Removal:

Bird droppings are a simple, unavoidable problem yet if left on paint work they can turn into a major one! This is because bird droppings contain acid and when left sitting on paint can eat in to the surface damaging the paint.

We will carefully wet flat the damaged area and machine polish back to new.
