Vehicle bumpers can receive vast amounts of damage such as stone chips, cracks, scuffs, etc. This is mainly because they are so low to the ground. Years ago bumpers where smaller, stronger and normally made of metal which would allow for a certain amount of use without showing signs of damage.
But back then, vehicles where built stronger and, in the event of an accident, designed not to crumple. The problem with this was that drivers took the brunt of the impact causing many injuries. However, nowadays vehicles are designed to crumple and take the impact so that we don't have to.
This is done by making the bumpers larger with thinner covers and reinforcemen bars located behind for strength. These covers are made of a number of different materials such as plastic, fibre glass and rubber to name but a few. So while we're safer, the bumpers, being larger and thinner, can easily get damaged.
Unfortunately we can't provide prevention but we can definitely provide the cure!
